Why We Start With the Water

Rutsnguts is a kitchen remodeling contractor working in homes across Scottsdale, Arizona. We do the full range of kitchen work: tearing out and replacing cabinets, setting new counters and backsplash, running appliance circuits and under cabinet lighting, moving a sink or opening a wall when the layout needs it, and handling City of Scottsdale permits and inspections when the scope requires them.

What makes the way we work different is simple. We look at the water first.

Scottsdale’s municipal water is very hard. That is not a flaw in the supply, it is what the source water carries, and it is harmless to drink. It is hard on kitchens, though. Every splash that dries on a counter, a faucet or a glass tile leaves a thin mineral deposit behind, and in a dry climate with summer afternoons past 110 degrees, water dries almost as fast as it lands. Inside the plumbing the same minerals slowly build up in faucet cartridges, supply valves, ice maker inlets and dishwasher spray arms.

Too many remodels choose every finish and appliance from a showroom and leave the water as an afterthought. A year later the new matte faucet is chalky, the dark honed counter has a permanent ring by the sink, and the refrigerator is making hollow ice. None of that was inevitable.

How That Shapes a Job

• We test at your tap. A hardness reading and a look at the old fixtures tell us what the new ones will face.
• We explain maintenance before you choose. Some finishes and stones are easy to keep clean in this water, and some need drying after every use. You decide with that information in hand.
• We plan treatment into the rough-in. A softener loop, a filter line or a reverse osmosis drinking tap costs far less to route while walls and cabinets are open.
• We replace the small parts people skip. Scaled shutoff valves and old supply lines come out on every sink we touch.

Our jobs run from ranch homes built in the 1960s and 1970s in south Scottsdale, through planned communities like McCormick Ranch, Gainey Ranch and Scottsdale Ranch, up to custom homes near DC Ranch, Pinnacle Peak and Desert Mountain. We also remodel condo and loft kitchens in Old Town, where building rules on work hours and water shutoffs shape the schedule.
